The Story of Awaiting Stone is traditional folklore in East Asian culture. In the original, a wife waited hundreds of years for her husband to return home, only to be turned into a stone, still waiting.
In the small city in Hubei, the representative of the local tourism bureau and his secretary leave to search for a tourism site on a barren mountain – an Awaiting Stone. The stone that they are attempting to find needs to resemble the gesture of a housewife anticipating her husband to come home. In this field of deadly silence, the secretary reenacts her life as a woman – being trapped, gazed at, manipulated, and forgotten.
